Serian air quality remains unhealthy

KUALA LUMPUR: Air quality in Serian, Sarawak remained unhealthy, with an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 151 as of 7am today.

According to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), 54 of 68 monitoring stations nationwide recorded moderate air quality, with readings between 51 and 100.

Six stations recorded good air quality, with readings between 0 and 50, while no stations recorded very unhealthy or hazardous levels.

Pasir Gudang recorded the highest moderate reading at 86, followed by Sandakan (79), with several other areas in Johor and Pahang also recording moderate levels.

The air quality is expected to gradually improve following forecasts of rain and thunderstorms in several areas nationwide from this afternoon.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecast fair weather in most areas of the Federal Territories and Selangor this morning, with rain and thunderstorms expected in several locations this afternoon.

In Kuala Lumpur, thunderstorms are expected in several areas this afternoon, while Putrajaya is forecast to remain fair and dry throughout the day.

Hulu Selangor and Gombak are expected to experience thunderstorms this afternoon and rain in several areas tonight, while rain is forecast for Petaling and Shah Alam this afternoon.

Overall, thunderstorms and rain in Selangor are expected to be concentrated mainly in some inland areas this afternoon and tonight.

The public, particularly road users, are advised to remain vigilant over sudden weather changes, which could result in slippery roads and reduced visibility during the afternoon peak period.
