Translate

Go behind the scenes with Weezer on The Gathering Tour. Brian Bell, Scott Shriner and Patrick Wilson share how the tour came together, what life on the road is really like and how fans make songs such as “Say It Ain’t So” and “El Scorcho” special every night. Plus, Karl Koch takes Billboard inside Weezer’s VIP experience, with a look at the band’s instruments and history.

Brian Bell: I’ve never once opened the treat, the cheese tray. If you were here with me, you would be welcome to it.

Scott Shriner: I think at one point we were going to be on the house, which is probably why they made it so it weighs 20,000 pounds.

Brian Bell: Hi, it’s Brian Bell from Weezer.

Scott Shriner: It’s Scott.

Patrick Wilson: And Patrick from Weezer.

Scott Shriner and Patrick Wilson: Come with us on our tour in Billboard All Access.

Scott Shriner: We got together and had Zoom calls and looked at pictures. I was just thinking this the other day, ’cause we looked at some other sets and they were, they were so different. It was such a different vibe. And I was like, so glad we didn’t do that, ’cause this turned out to be very fun and open and inclusive. Kind of puts us right in the mix with the audience.

Brian Bell: The Gathering Tour was created, the creative of the creation of the being creative was a joint effort between all four members. It started with the title of the tour. That was The Gathering. That was possibly going to be the name of the record when we were in the studio making what is now known as the “Gold Album.” We had to come up with a backstory. Who’s gathering? Why are we gathering? Our in-house director, Brendan Walters, who came up with this idea of this kid, Nicholas, who summons us to play at the gathering by drawing the symbols that we came up with on a piece of paper, and they enchant us with golden eyes, and everybody else who comes to see us, and we decide to play a house party at the house where the band first originated, in the garage of, in the garage, is that garage.
