Govt deploys equipment to support Kalimantan's firefighting efforts

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works has dispatched fire suppression equipment to five provinces on Kalimantan Island to speed up emergency response and meet water supply needs in affected areas.

"While circumstances vary, our priority is to respond quickly to needs in the field. I have instructed all teams to stay alert and take action, especially to maintain basic public services," Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The Directorate General of Water Resources is distributing the equipment through the ministry's River Basin Organizations in West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, and North Kalimantan. The supplies were shipped by sea from Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta.

A total of 13 additional units of equipment have been readied to strengthen firefighting efforts in Kalimantan. These include mobile pumps with a capacity of 250 liters per second, water tank trucks, and 6-inch portable pumps with a capacity of 41.6 liters per second.

West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan are each allocated one 5,000-liter water tank truck, one 250-liter-per-second mobile pump, and one 6-inch portable pump.

Meanwhile, East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan each receive one 4,000-liter water tank truck and one 6-inch portable pump.

Beyond the supplies shipped from Jakarta, individual river basin organizations in each province will directly procure items such as 3-inch portable pumps, jet sprinklers, backpack pumps, extension hoses, and water storage tanks as needed on the ground.

Director General of Water Resources Arnold A.P. Ritiauw stated that equipment readiness plays a crucial role in accelerating forest and land fire suppression operations.

The Directorate General of Water Resources will continue to coordinate with river basin organizations across Kalimantan to ensure the equipment is operational and ready to be utilized based on field conditions and needs.

This measure is part of the ministry's effort to not only construct and manage water resources infrastructure, but also guarantee that facilities are ready for deployment during emergencies.
