The Perfect Replacement For Mike Flanagan's Carrie Is Coming To Netflix Next Month

Mike Flanagan’s Carrie has taken over horror TV, and its perfect replacement will arrive as soon as November, but this one will release on Netflix. Mike Flanagan has rightfully earned his place as one of the modern masters of horror, along with a reputation for making some of the best Stephen King adaptations to date. Adding to his streak of successful horror works is Prime Video’s Carrie, the first TV adaptation of King’s 1974 novel.
Flanagan’s Carrie is a reimagining of the novel, successfully modernizing it while staying true to the core elements of King’s story. Carrie tells the story of Carrie White (Summer H. Howell), who is forced to attend high school after being homeschooled and isolated by her mother her whole life. Although Carrie is excited and curious about attending school, a bullying scandal changes her perspective and awakens her telekinetic powers.
Carrie is already one of the best horror TV shows of 2026, and even though it just came out, it won’t be long before it gets a perfect replacement and strong competitor, though this one will be on Netflix. Created by Quinn Shephard, the TV show The Body has the potential to go against Carrie and take its place once it’s released on November 11, as they have a similar horror tone but tell different stories.
The Body Is A Psychological Drama That Sounds Perfect For Fans Of Carrie
The Body is a coming-of-age psychological drama series that centers on a group of Catholic school girls who host a party where they do a dance-team initiation – however, the ritual goes wrong as they summon forces they are not ready to deal with. As a result, the girls involved in the ritual begin to have prophetic visions that end up unleashing mass hysteria in their town, make them question their own beliefs, and confess their darkest, best-kept secrets.
The first trailer for The Body promises plenty of mystery, psychological horror, and chaos brought by the bad decisions and actions of this “badly behaved” group of schoolgirls. Now, although Carrie and The Body are clearly very different stories, they do have some interesting similarities and are tonally alike, making it the best next watch for those who enjoyed Flanagan’s take on King’s novel.
The Body introduces viewers to Grace (Sofia Wylie), an awkward, new-girl-in-school character who is pretty much an outcast when she arrives, just like Carrie White. Grace is targeted by the group of popular girls, who gradually bully her, with their acts peaking during the above-mentioned ritual. This is the triggering event for the chaos that follows, mirroring the destruction unleashed by Carrie after prom.
In addition to that, The Body and Carrie both have religious elements, with Margaret White being a religious fanatic and the girls in The Body questioning the beliefs they have been taught at school (and messing with the more obscure side of religion), which further makes them similar, potentially turning them into a perfect double-feature.
The Body's Creator Called Carrie An Inspiration For The Upcoming Netflix Series
The similarities between The Body and Carrie aren’t a coincidence, as the former’s creator has mentioned Stephen King’s novel as one of her inspirations. Speaking to Netflix Tudum, Shephard called The Body a “love letter” to teen movies and erotic thrillers from the 1990s and early 2000s, citing Carrie, Jennifer’s Body, Heavenly Creatures, and Mean Girls as some of her inspirations.
Shephard also shared that she took a lot of inspiration from her own adolescence, with The Body “satirizing some of the trauma of growing up queer” and the confusion that came with that. Shephard added that The Body has plenty of cliffhangers, and even though she didn’t mention plans for more seasons, one can only hope that those cliffhangers will eventually pay off. The Body is set for a November 11, 2026, release on Netflix, with all eight episodes released that day.
