UFC: Norma Dumont eyes title shot with pivotal clash against Ailin Perez

Ranked UFC bantamweight contender Norma Dumont is looking to settle a bitter, two-year social media feud and catapult herself back into the championship picture when she faces rival Aileen Perez.

The matchup features a classic conflict between Dumont’s high-caliber striking and Perez’s heavy wrestling pedigree. The bad blood between the two has simmered for two years, with Perez repeatedly calling out the Brazilian on social media.

Addressing the delay in making the fight official, Dumont dismissed any notion that she was hesitant to step into the Octagon with her Argentine rival, stating simply, “It was it was up to her to accept.”

Perez has built her UFC run on dominant top control, but Dumont is highly confident she can shut down the takedowns and keep the fight standing.

Though keeping the tactical details of her training camp under wraps, Dumont was explicit about her overall game plan to “defend the takedowns and beat her up.” ”

While Dumont’s tactical efficiency is proven, her tendency to go the distance—with 11 of her last 12 fights ending in the judges’ hands—presents a vulnerability against a fighter like Perez.

However, Dumont remains unbothered by the projected pace of the bout, pointing to the level of opposition she has routinely faced. “I mean all my fights have been at a high level and at a high pace and I’m going to beat her up as long as she can take it,” Dumont said.

A crucial element to Dumont’s current run is her physical condition. Having struggled with weight cuts earlier in her career, she emphasised that her move to the 135-pound division has been highly successful and she is now competing at maximum strength. “Yeah, it’s been four years since I’ve had problem making the weight. I’m making 135 easy now,” Dumont explained.

With victories over former champions and top-tier contenders already on her resume, Dumont believes a statement victory over the surging Perez is the final piece of the puzzle to secure an elusive championship opportunity.
