England's harrowing defeat by Argentina at the World Cup is certainly the elephant in the room for Thomas Tuchel ahead of this international break.

He was trusted to deliver in big matches for England and his decision to invite pressure by making defensive substitutions backfired catastrophically, ultimately causing the Three Lions' downfall.

Scott set to earn call-up

It is understood Alex Scott is set to be named in Thomas Tuchel's 23-man squad, so the Bournemouth star will have another chance to earn his England debut this time around.

The Guernsey-born star was drafted in by Tuchel for England's final squad before World Cup but didn't quite do enough to get out on to the pitch.

But after an excellent start to the season under new Cherries boss Marco Rose, Scott looks set to return.

Although the agonising trophy drought still looms over England, there is no denying Tuchel is blessed with a string of talented footballers to choose from.

With that, it can be quite a headache to fit everyone into just a 23-man squad - which is three players less than the group Tuchel took to the World Cup.

Plenty of opportunities to impress

The new extended 16-day international break will see England face Spain, Croatia and Czechia twice before returning to domestic football, meaning there are plenty of chances to impress the German for those fortunate enough to be called up today.

Tuchel surprisingly omitted a few high-profile players from his 26-man World Cup squad in the summer, with Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, Harry Maguire and Trent Alexander-Arnold topping that list.

With four games to sink his teeth into, Tuchel would be wise to use the October break as an opportunity to test out new ideas and give those who didn't go to the World Cup - and perhaps should have - the chance to shine.

Palmer, as Ian rightly noted, is surely one of those names...

Tuchel needs more variety

Just arriving at Wembley for yet another England 'new dawn'. This is an important squad to be in as England will play four games in this international break.

If a player isn't in this one then there isn't another until November.

I am hopeful there will be a return for Cole Palmer and an inclusion for Alex Scott, who has started the season well at Bournemouth.

There was too much 'like for like' in England's World Cup squad.

I want more variety and the inclusion of players who can help us control games rather better.
