Hogwarts Legacy's Replacement Finally Officially Arrives This Year

Translate

Known as 'Cyberpunk 2077's' biggest fan, Angharad is a Welsh games writer who thrives in anything related to digital storytelling. If a video game explores the intricacies and horrors of womanhood, she is there.

Thanks to previous work at GAMINGbible, GameByte, The Loadout, Game Luster, Angharad has built a strong understanding of both the digital world and what fans want from it and is eager to share her thoughts and expertise with readers.

When it comes to video games set in magical schools, there are more out there than you would likely believe. However, there is also no denying that Hogwarts Legacy appealed the most to fans, especially with many of them having grown up with the Harry Potter franchise since it was first published back in 1997.

Allowing fans to live out their dreams of being a Hogwarts student, Hogwarts Legacy went on to become the best-selling game of 2023, and despite complaints over a lack of post-game content, confirmation that a sequel was currently in development was enough to satiate players. In the meantime, however, there is another magical school on the horizon, with many believing that it could scratch that Hogwarts Legacy itch.

The Newest Witch On the Block

Set to launch some time this year, although an exact release date has not yet been confirmed, Witchbrook is "a spellbinding witch life-sim for up to 4-players", developed by Chucklefish. Set in the mystical seaside town of Mossport, you will be the newest resident witch on the block, and it will be up to you to make friends, find love, and uncover the mysteries of the adorable locale, all whilst working towards your graduation.

You will become the newest student at Witchbrook College, and as you progress through the academic year, you will still need to find time to immerse yourself in the chaos and wonder of Mossport.

The town of Mossport is a living, breathing world; teeming with life, even when you’re not looking! From townsfolk with intricate and unique daily routines, to community events that mark the changing of the seasons.

Your coven, teachers, friends, and townsfolk will also be living their lives alongside you, each with their own unique schedule that Stardew Valley lovers will know all too well. However, if they find time in their schedule, you can head to the pub, cram for the next exam together, head to the library, or even attend one of the town's many seasonal events.

Watch the townsfolk shed their mittens as the Winter snowfall melts away, allowing for the gradual bloom of colourful Spring flowers and donning of sun hats.

As the seasons change, so do the rhythms of the town and its vibrant community...

As you make friends, fall in love, and form everlasting memories, you will also need to work hard in order to graduate from Witchbrook College. By attending classes, you will be able to hone your magical abilities, complete assignments, and expand your knowledge. However, with exams ever looming, you will have to make sure that you leave enough time to study by brewing potions, competing with your coven, and even participating in mysterious rituals.

Create lasting memories and life-long friendships or maybe flirt with finding romance amidst a colourful cast of datable characters. Share adventures, exchange secrets, and uncover a deeper connection with your Coven.

In Witchbrook, no two days will be the same as you forge your own identity by taking part in various activities with a diverse cast of characters, or just chilling with friends in up to four player co-op.

There’s more to life than just your witch studies! Spend your free time (and your hard-earned witch-business profits) however you please. Shop ‘til you drop at Mossport’s boutiques and eateries, and sell your crafts at the Sunday market. Or spend your weekend chasing a new highscore at the arcade, documenting Mossport through your camera lens, or picking out the perfect gift for a romantic date. Mossport is full of ways to unwind and express yourself!

As mentioned, Witchbrook unfortunately does not yet have a release date, but with a 2026 window still scheduled, we can only hope that it will be revealed soon, and finally scratch that Hogwarts Legacy itch that we have all been feeling.
