Semtech rises as it boosts Q3 guidance, offers up 2030 outlook; Northland upgrades

Semtech (SMTC) was in focus on Friday after the semiconductor company offered up stronger-than-expected guidance for the third quarter and introduced an outlook for 2030. Subsequently, Northland Capital upgraded shares following Thursday's sell-off.
Semtech shares rose 4.5% in premarket trading on Friday.
Speaking at its investor day, Semtech said it expects to earn between $1.12 and $1.16 per share on an adjusted basis for the third quarter, above the $1.06 analysts were expecting. That's a higher range than the previous forecast of $1.02 to $1.08 that Semtech provided.
The company expects sales to be between $415M and $420M for the period, above the $410.69M analysts expected and above the prior forecast of $405M to $415M.
Gross margins for the period are expected to be between 58.6% and 59.4%, above the prior guidance of 57.3% to 59.3%.
Additionally, Semtech also said it expects sales to grow at a compound annual rate of 38% from fiscal 2026 to fiscal 2030. Data center sales from fiscal 2026 to fiscal 2030 are expected to grow 75% on a compound annual basis, with adjusted earnings per share growing between 64% and 66% on the same time frame.
Following the guidance, Northland Securities upgraded Semtech to Outperform from Market Perform. Analyst Gus Richard said the risk profile is now more favorable, due in part to recent weakness in the shares. Richard has a $186 price target on the stock.
