How Kaizer Chiefs’ list of new signings compare with Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns have focused on experience, attacking quality and competition for places, while Kaizer Chiefs have mixed established players with younger talents who can develop over time.

WHO DID MAMELODI SUNDOWNS SIGN?

Mamelodi Sundowns have added seven players to their squad. Cassius Mailula, 25, has returned from Toronto FC in Canada as a forward after initially breaking through at Mamelodi Sundowns. Siyanda Ndlovu, 22, has joined from Lamontville Golden Arrows. The forward brings pace and attacking potential.

Antonio van Wyk, 24, arrives from SV Ried in Austria and gives Mamelodi Sundowns another attacking option with European experience. Katlego Ntsabeleng, 28, has made his move from FC Dallas permanent after initially joining on loan. He provides another option in attacking and midfield areas.

Deano Van Rooyen, 29, is arguably the most interesting signing. The right-back crossed the divide from Orlando Pirates to Mamelodi Sundowns, bringing experience and strong knowledge of the domestic game.

Thabo Cele, 29, also crossed a major divide after joining from Amakhosi. The midfielder adds physicality, experience and another box-to-box option.

Then there is Thabang Matuludi, 27, who joined from Polokwane City. The right-back was also wanted by Orlando Pirates, making his move another significant transfer victory for Mamelodi Sundowns.

HOW HAVE KAIZER CHIEFS RECRUITED?

Kaizer Chiefs have taken a slightly different approach by combining experienced players with younger footballers who have room to develop. Khanyisa Mayo, 27, joined from CR Belouizdad in Algeria after his loan move was made permanent. He gives Kaizer Chiefs another option on the right wing and at centre-forward.

The club have also strengthened their squad with three players connected to Stellenbosch FC. Thabo Moloisane, 27, joined from Stellenbosch FC, while goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner, 28, arrived from Sekhukhune United.

Kaizer Chiefs have also invested in youth. Langelihle Phili, 21, joined from Stellenbosch FC, while Faiz Abrahams, 21, arrived on loan with an option to make the move permanent.

The final addition is Adolf Bitegeko, 27, who joined from Azam FC in Tanzania. He adds another option in defensive midfield.

The two clubs have therefore taken different approaches. Mamelodi Sundowns have targeted established players with experience at the highest level, while Kaizer Chiefs have combined experience with younger players who could become important figures in the future.

The big question now is which recruitment strategy will deliver the better results on the pitch.
