‘This Summer Will Be Different’ Netflix Series Casts Malin Akerman, Megan Follows, Nadine Bhabha, Matias Lucas

Netflix‘s series adaptation of “This Summer Will Be Different” has added four new cast members, Variety has learned.

Malin Akerman (“The Hunting Wives,” “Billions”), Megan Follows (“Buried in Barstow,” “Anne of Green Gables,”), Nadine Bhabha (“Heated Rivalry,” “Slo Pitch”), and Matias Lucas (“The Order”) have all joined the drama based on the Carley Fortune novel of the same name.

The quartet join series leads Sophie Nélisse, Francesca Reale, and Roby Attal as well as fellow cast members Jordan Rodrigues, Jude Wilson, Natalie Brown, James Tupper, Tom Barnett, and Celia Owen.

Akerman, who currently stars in the Netflix series “The Hunting Wives,” will play Aunt Stacy. Follows will play Cherly, with Bhabha set as Farah. Lucas will play Carter.

“This Summer Will Be Different” was previously filming on Prince Edward Island and is now filming in Toronto. The logline for the show describes it as “a simmering, sun-soaked romance set across multiple summers on Prince Edward Island about Lucy (Nélisse), a young woman navigating her 20s and her first real love with her best friend’s (Reale) brother (Attal), the one person she was never supposed to fall for.

The series is being adapted for the screen by Dane Clark and Linsey Stewart, who also serve as showrunners and executive producers. Fortune is also an executive producer along with Jennifer Kawaja, Elise Cousineau, and Samantha Levine for Sphere Media.

This marks the latest Netflix romance series based on a book or books. Most famously, Netflix airs the hit drama “Bridgerton,” which is currently prepping its fifth season. Others include “Virgin River” and “Forever,” while the romantic drama “Ransom Canyon” was recently canceled.
