Dolly Parton Classic 9 to 5 Returning to Theaters This October

It’s a song, it’s a generational touchstone, it’s a great movie being re-released into theaters: Beginning October 9th, audiences can re-appreciate the glory of Dolly Parton in 9 to 5 on the big screen, newly restored by 20th Century Studios. Net proceeds from every ticket sold will be donated to The Dollywood Foundation to support Parton’s Imagination Library.

9 to 5 was directed by Colin Higgins and written by Higgins and Patricia Resnick. Parton received an Oscar nomination for the hit title song you might have stuck in your head right now. Here’s the movie’s official synopsis:

 A group of female office workers – the all-knowing manager who trained the boss but can’t get promoted (Lily Tomlin), a befuddled newcomer (Jane Fonda) and an alluring personal secretary everyone presumes is having an affair (Dolly Parton) – all band together to seek revenge on the man who is making their lives miserable.

This announcement comes on what’s now being called “Give Like Dolly Day,” which is set to become an annual tradition on September 25th (9-2-5, get it?), with an aim to (per the official release) encourage the world “to make a difference in a child’s life and honor Parton’s lifelong mission, inspiring children to ‘Dream More, Learn More, Care More and Be More.'”
