Titus Welliver's portrayal of Bosch has become one of the greatest and most beloved on-screen performances in crime drama. Fans across the board, and even Welliver himself, were understandably upset after Bosch: Legacy's divisive ending, and while the series has continued with various spin-offs, there's still a lingering sense that Harry Bosch's story deserved more time in the spotlight.

After seven acclaimed seasons of the original Bosch series and another three seasons of Bosch: Legacy, Welliver had spent more than a decade bringing Michael Connelly's iconic detective to life. His departure as the franchise's leading man marked the end of an era, particularly for longtime viewers who had followed Bosch through countless investigations and personal tragedies over the years.

Fortunately, fans haven't seen the last of Welliver just yet, as the actor is officially returning on October 27 in a brand-new release that should give Bosch enthusiasts at least a little something to celebrate (via Collider).

Harry Bosch looks worried in Prime Video's Bosch

Although Bosch: Legacy has officially ended, Titus Welliver is returning to the role of Harry Bosch on October 27 courtesy of Michael Connelly's newest novel, The Hollow. The upcoming release marks another chapter in the detective's ongoing journey, with Welliver reprising his role as the narrator of the audiobook adaptation.

The Hollow follows a retired Harry Bosch as he revisits one of the darkest periods of his childhood. After his mother's murder, a young Bosch was placed in the MacLaren Children's Center, an institution notorious for mistreating its residents. Decades later, a class-action lawsuit results in a massive settlement for former residents, and Bosch learns from his half-brother that he's entitled to a large payout.

However, Bosch is far more interested in uncovering the truth behind the death of a childhood friend named Chops, whose body was discovered in a hidden disciplinary space known as "the Hollow," hence the title.

You can preorder Michael Connelly's The Horror on Amazon here.

The novel will be released in hardcover, ebook, and audiobook formats on October 27 in the United States, with a UK release following on November 5. The 352-page hardcover is listed at $32 USD, while the unabridged audiobook, published by Hachette Audio, is listed at just under $30, and both are currently available for preorder.

The most exciting bit of this release, however, is that Welliver will share audiobook narration duties with Cameron Monaghan, who is officially taking over as a younger Harry Bosch in the upcoming prequel series, Bosch: Start of Watch. It's a particularly fitting collaboration that brings together two generations of the character, giving fans an opportunity to hear both actors involved in the franchise's next chapter ahead of its official launch. Connelly has also released an official excerpt from the audiobook's opening chapter ahead of its release, which you can check out now.

Beyond Welliver's return, the larger Bosch franchise is still expanding on television, even without Welliver as its central star. Following Bosch: Legacy's conclusion in April 2025, Amazon launched Ballard, a new spinoff starring Maggie Q as LAPD detective Renée Ballard.

As mentioned, Bosch: Start of Watch is an upcoming MGM+ prequel starring Cameron Monaghan as a younger Harry Bosch. Set in 1991 Los Angeles, the series explores Bosch's early years with the LAPD alongside veteran officer Eli Bridges, played by Omari Hardwick. The story will delve into gang violence, racial tensions, and police corruption during one of the city's most turbulent periods.

Between The Hollow, Ballard season 2, and Start of Watch, the franchise's future looks promising, even if fans are feeling a bit ambivalent about how things have played out in recently. Although Welliver's time as the leading man may be over, his upcoming audiobook return is a welcome reminder that his portrayal of Harry Bosch remains an essential part of the franchise's legacy.
