With Fallout 5 likely still years and years away from being completed in any meaningful way, we're going to have to amuse ourselves with other games in the franchise for a long time to come yet. All the 3D games are great fun to return to in 2026, but Fallout 4 is the one that's most open to offering us new experiences at this juncture.
That comes about thanks to the game's immense community of modders, who continue to bring us new quests, settlements, and usable items, bringing Fallout 4 a new lease on life every time they do. Now, the latest of those releases has drawn attention from Bethesda themselves, and it's a huge project that brings all kinds of fun to the proverbial party.
As first reported by GAMINGbible, Bethesda recently posted one of the newest mods on the Creations Club. Command Override is an enormous robot-themed mod that does everything from adding a major dungeon for players to conquer, to giving them fresh weapons and armor to do it with.
Developer Hobgoblin Studios shared some key bullet points, so fans know what to expect from the download if they do decide to commit to giving it a go:
- The new "Beam" type weapon is a RobCo experimental weapon that fires a continuous stream of laser fire. Equipped on the side is a "Mini-Boy," displaying the barrel's temperature and hacking information. When the beam gun overheats, it deals extra damage and ignites enemies, but it also slowly inflicts RAD damage on the player.
- A new Ghost Pilot suit that comes with a built-in Threat Pulse scanner that highlights enemies in your area even through walls with a red binary code effect. The Ghost Pilot suit also turns the wearer invisible when crouching and remaining still, keeping you concealed while remote-controlling robots.
- Hack and control any robot using the Beam Gun's alt-fire mode (grenade button). The player can choose from a list of robot behaviors such as Friendly, Frenzy, Shutdown, Self-Destruct, and the new Remote Control feature, allowing you to pilot robots directly. Access everything from the Sentry Bot's missile pod to the Assaultron's eye laser during combat.
The dungeon is set in the downtown area of Boston, where you'll be heading into the RobCo Headquarters for the region. It is filled with custom props and unique designs that you won't find anywhere else in the game, while it also has unique rooms like an experimental weapons lab and multi-level offices. In even better news, everything you see in the headquarters will be available to use in your settlement, once it has been conquered.
There is also a totally original quest in 'Down to the Wire,' which tasks the player with taking on an emerging gunner threat. That comes with a new puzzle-solving keypad feature, and hidden technologies that are once again original to this download.
Unfortunately, as with most downloads on the Creation Club, this one isn't totally free if you want to play. That said, it is quite reasonably priced at 500 Credits (~$4.99), and it should give you the opportunity to have hours more fun, within the Fallout 4 that you already own.
