'Football will never be the same without my brother,' says teen after fatal lorry accident

KUALA TERENGGANU: A 14-year-old boy was left traumatised after witnessing his 8-year-old brother being struck and killed by a lorry while retrieving a football in Kampung Surau Haji Daud yesterday.
Muhammad Idham Najmi Mohd Asizol said he could only cry when he saw his younger brother, Muhammad Atihff Zriqqiz, lying on the road.
"I was shocked and cried when I saw my brother lying on the road. I can still vividly recall the incident," he said when met at the forensic department of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital last night.
The Form Two student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tengku Ismail said he had been playing football with Atihff and their 12-year-old brother, Muhammad Ammar Najwan, inside their fenced compound at about 3pm.
However, tragedy struck when the ball bounced over the fence and across the road.
"My brother ran out to fetch the ball before he was hit by a lorry passing along the village road," he said.
"It will no longer be fun playing football because my brother is gone."
Atihff, a Year Two pupil at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kubang Ikan, died at the scene in the 3.40pm accident along Jalan Surau Cik Man.

Meanwhile, their father, Mohd Asizol Wahab, said the accident happened about 15 minutes after he left home for work as a courier delivery driver.
He said he had eaten with Atihff before leaving at 3pm to deliver parcels around the village.
"Fifteen minutes later, my wife called to tell me that our son had been hit by a lorry in front of our house. I rushed home and found him lying motionless on the road," he said.
Atihff was buried at the Haji Idris Family Cemetery in Kampung Tok Adis, Kuala Ibai, at 1.30am today.
