The first-ever edition of the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup will take place in the United States of America between January 5 and 30, 2028.
The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced the decision through a social media post on Wednesday.
“The inaugural edition of the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup will be hosted in the United States in January 2028,” FIFA said. “The host nation was confirmed by the FIFA Council in view of the maturity of its infrastructure and services, and the level of stakeholder interest in women’s football.”
The tournament will have 19 teams competing for the title. The following seven teams have already confirmed their spots in the World Cup: Arsenal (England), Barcelona (Spain), Club America (Mexico), Gotham (USA), Naegohyang (DPR Korea), Corinthians (Brazil) and Wuhan Jiangda (China).
“Women’s football has reached new heights at national-team level, and now it’s time for global competitions that showcase the best clubs from around the world.
“These FIFA competitions will stimulate growth, inspire athletes, create new rivalries, engage more fans and crown heroes from all over the world,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino was quoted in a media release.
“The FIFA Women’s Club World Cup will be a defining moment in the growth of women’s club football, giving the world’s top clubs the platform they deserve to compete against the best and put the women’s club game in the global spotlight.
