Court remands four over Worawora disturbances

Translate

The Dambai Circuit Court has remanded four people to police custody over their alleged involvement in disturbances at Dwabrem-Worawora in the Oti Region.

The accused are Kwame Aboagye Ahenkora, 55, Prince Asante, 27, Daniel Wiafe, 20, and Kwabena Nsimbo, 22.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) John Nchor, Public Affairs Officer of the Oti Regional Police Command, said the accused persons would reappear before the Court on November 17, 2026.

He said the alleged disturbances occurred at Dwabrem on October 24, 2026, amid tensions over the commencement of rites for the Akwantutenten Festival.

DSP Nchor said the incident allegedly involved the burning of vehicle tyres and other acts of violence following claims that a High Court injunction had been secured to restrain the celebration.

He said Police personnel deployed to the area extinguished the fire and restored order.

DSP Nchor said the Oti Regional Security Council (REGSEC), at a meeting with representatives of the disputing families on October 26, directed the parties to seek redress through the courts and the Houses of Chiefs.

He said the Council stressed that the chieftaincy dispute must be resolved through lawful means and directed that all persons arrested in connection with the disturbances be dealt with in accordance with the law.

DSP Nchor said the Oti Regional Police Command had appealed to all parties to remain calm, exercise restraint and respect lawful processes to help maintain peace and security in Worawora.
