Octavia Spencer responds to news of Ride or Die's 'cancellation' as fans beg for it to find new home

Octavia Spencer has reacted to the reports that Ride or Die, the action comedy series in which she stars alongside Hannah Waddingham, has been cancelled by Prime Video after just one season.

The series sees Spencer portray Debbie Claybourne, an MP whose best friend is Judith Burton (Waddingham). The pair are forced to go on the run after a mysterious enemy targets them, with Judith revealing herself to be a highly-skilled assassin.

Though it premiered to popular and critical acclaim in July, it has been reported by several outlets that the streamer has opted not to renew it for a second season, leading Paramount Television Studios to shop the series for other buyers.

Spencer, who also serves as an executive producer on the action comedy, has addressed the reports with a post on Instagram, writing: "Apparently, THIS was the best weekend for me to get sick because, well, distractions!

"I hope every creative out there gets to have the incredible experience that I've had bringing this project to life with the unwavering support from Skydance/Paramount these past three years," she added, before thanking various producers and crew members.

"Projects like this shouldn't be the exception, they should be the rule! For all the women out there who felt seen, laughed out loud, lived out loud with Debbie and Judith, thank you. This was a fun one!" she concluded as she thanked series creator Tessa Coates.

The comment section was filled with several disappointed fans, with one writing: "We LOVED this show!! I’m so mad and now have trust issues with television production. Don’t make me fall in love and then take it away."

There were also comments from several famous faces including Ledisi, Daisy Ridley, Tabitha Brown and Karan Ashley, while several followers expressed hope that the series could be picked up by another network or streamer.

"Girl. We are all rooting for this to find another home!! Keep inspiring us my friend!!" wrote one follower, while Ruby Rose noted: "This is in the top 10 CRAZIEST cancellations of all time. This PROVES WE ARE NOT ON A REAL TIMELINE!"

"I absolutely need to have another season of this show! It's been my favourite of the year!!! Congratulations on getting it done and now we need to find it another home!!!" wrote another fan.
