Explainer: MYEG, Zetrix AI suspension

KUALA LUMPUR: Transport Minister Anthony Loke is scheduled to hold a press conference at 11am today on the Road Transport Department's (RTD) suspension of My E.G. Sdn Bhd and Zetrix AI Bhd as collection agents following more than RM200 million in unremitted collections.
The press conference will be held at the Transport Ministry in Putrajaya.
Here is what we know so far:
May 2023
Zetrix AI began a three-year contract with the RTD to provide collection services.
The unremitted collections reportedly date back to the start of the contract and involve payments for vehicle road tax renewals, driving licence renewals and traffic summonses.
More than RM200 million in collections made on behalf of the RTD reportedly remained unremitted.

The RTD announced that the services of My E.G. and Zetrix AI, both under the MYEG Group, as its collection agents would be suspended from 12.01am on Oct 5.
RTD director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the decision was made after considering compliance with the terms and conditions of the agreement, as well as outstanding obligations that had yet to be fulfilled or resolved.
The RTD said all services previously offered through MYEG Group channels would be suspended, while its services would remain available through official and alternative channels.
The announcement came after the Transport Ministry confirmed to The Edge that Zetrix AI owed the government more than RM200 million in unremitted collections.
On the same day, Malaysia Corruption Watch president Jais Abdul Karim called on the government to explain how My E.G. and Zetrix AI had failed to remit up to RM200 million collected on behalf of the RTD.
Jais also called for an audit, questioning the mechanisms in place to ensure collections were properly recorded, reconciled and remitted.
He sought clarification on the actual outstanding amount, the period over which the arrears accumulated, the contractual remittance schedule, when the arrears were first detected and what action had been taken to recover the money.
