SHAH ALAM, Oct 18 — Police found no explosives or suspicious devices at a supermarket on Jalan Kapar, Klang, following an email claiming that such materials had been placed on the premises.

North Klang police chief ACP Ramsay Embol said his department received a report at 4.04pm yesterday from a male store manager who had received the email.

He said police subsequently conducted a thorough inspection at the premises with assistance from the K9 Sniffer Dog Unit, the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) Bomb Disposal Unit, the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department and the Klang Civil Defence Department.

“After an inspection lasting nearly three hours, police and the assisting teams found no explosives or suspicious devices as claimed in the email,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Ramsay said the case was being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code, which concerns criminal intimidation by anonymous communication and carries a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment upon conviction.

He reminded the public not to use email or other forms of communication to spread information that could threaten public order and cause fear among the community.

Members of the public with information on the case are urged to contact the North Klang District Police Headquarters (IPD) at 03-3291 9614 or the investigating officer, Inspector Mohd Fazlan Rezza Mazlan, at 011-1056 1017 to assist in the investigation.

Earlier, several social media posts went viral claiming that a supermarket in Klang had been closed following the discovery of a bomb on the premises. — Bernama
