Taylor Sheridan’s Marshals season 2 is almost here, but fans will have to wait just a little while longer for it. CBS’s fall 2026 lineup is being kicked off, aptly, by the number 1 new show on network TV. Despite its late debut, Marshals emerged as the top-rated series last cycle — even dethroning long-running winner, Tracker. To make its achievement all the more impressive, it did that by just releasing 13 episodes during the 2025-2026 TV season.

Between that and the way Marshals season 1 ended, there’s intense anticipation to learn what’s next for Kayce Dutton and the rest of his new team in Montana. For context, the show’s freshman run wrapped up with Tate getting kidnapped by Tom Weaver while Cal and Belle found themselves ambushed by the same villain’s men. When Marshals season 2 kicks off, it’s safe to say that all of these will be addressed, but viewers will have to extend their patience a bit longer for answers.

Marshals Season 2, Episode 1 Is Not Airing In Its Original Timeslot

When CBS first announced its fall 2026 slate, it was revealed that Marshals was keeping its 8 pm ET timeslot, preceding Justin Hartley’s Tracker. However, when additional details were unveiled, it was confirmed that it wasn’t airing in its original timeslot. Instead, Marshals season 2, episode 1, “All Hat No Cattle” will premiere at 8:30 pm EST — half an hour delayed from its usual block.

CBS hasn’t released an official reason for this delay. Per their schedule, 60 Minutes will still precede Marshals season 2 and Tracker season 4, but like them, it’s also delayed for half an hour. The change in timeslot likely has something to do with CBS’s NFL coverage that starts in the afternoon. The good news is that, after this week, all three shows will settle into their regular premieres, which means 60 Minutes, Marshals, and Tracker will be releasing new episodes at 7, 8, and 9 pm ET, respectively, during Sunday nights.

What To Expect From Marshals Season 2

Marshals season 2 is expected to address all lingering plots from the previous cycle. It’s difficult to imagine Kayce letting Weaver keep Tate for more than an episode once he finds out about his true intentions. What’s more interesting is how the father and son will move forward after this. On the heels of Monica’s death, it doesn’t seem like they will be given the chance to move on peacefully. Whether Weaver will continue to be Marshals big bad into its sophomore year is uncertain.

Beyond the Duttons, Marshals season 2 will have enough time to further flesh out the rest of Calvin’s team. Since season 1 only had 13 episodes, the show was constrained by what it was able to do with Belle, Andrea, and Miles, as the series only had to juggle the weekly cases that came via its procedural format. In its sophomore return, there’s an expectation that Marshals will feel more like an ensemble, which it technically is.
