Udobia marks birthday with new classroom block

The member representing Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Udobia Udo, has handed over a newly constructed and furnished classroom block to Iwuoachang Community Secondary School in Ibeno Local Government Area of the state.

The facility, which was commissioned and formally handed over to the school on Udobia’s birthday, comprises three classrooms, a principal’s office, a staff office, separate toilet facilities for students and teachers, a store and a water facility.

The handover took place on the first day of the new academic session, with Udobia saying he deliberately chose the date to enable students and teachers to begin using the facility immediately.

Speaking at the ceremony, Udobia said he had made it a practice to mark his birthdays by contributing positively to the lives of others.

He said, “I thought it wise that today, being the resumption of school, I should present this facility so that students and teachers can make use of it.”

He added, “On my birthdays, I always try to impact lives positively. This year, I have come to hand over this project to the people of Iwuoachang and Ibeno, my constituency at large.”

Udobia said the project was aimed at addressing inadequate classroom facilities in the area and providing students with a more conducive environment for learning.

“I know the need for education and the need to help our children have where to get education, as well as to depopulate the very few classrooms we already have, so that learning would be breezy and enjoyable,” he added.

The lawmaker expressed appreciation to the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, for supporting members of the legislature in contributing to the development of their constituencies.

He said the project was conceived as a model that could encourage other stakeholders, government agencies and individuals to invest in education.

Udobia said the initiative was also in line with the state government’s ARISE Agenda, particularly its focus on improving education and learning conditions across communities.

He urged the school and the community to protect the facility and ensure that it remained useful to generations of students.

The commissioning and formal handover were performed by the All Progressives Congress candidate for Eket Federal Constituency, Eunice Thomas.

Thomas commended Udobia and Governor Eno for their contributions to education in the area, saying the broader objective should be to provide children with quality and practical education.

The Iwuoachang Village Council also commended Udobia for the intervention, describing the project as a step towards improving education in the community.

The principal of the school, Ikpaette Ikpaette, said the project had addressed a longstanding challenge of inadequate classroom facilities.

The event was attended by members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, representatives of the local government council, traditional leaders, students, community members and other stakeholders.
