Two Women Behind Nigeria’s Guinness World Record: Damilola Osikoya, Nora Awolowo Credited for Historic TBS Night

Switch Visuals CEO and Rixel Studios producer jointly credited for Saturday’s record-breaking screening in Lagos.

More than 51,000 people gathered at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos, on Saturday, September 26, 2026, for a screening of the Nollywood crime thriller Black Market, setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at a film screening in a single location. The previous record of 43,624 was set in 2015 by the Filipino film Felix Manalo at the Philippine Arena.

A Guinness World Records official confirmed the attendance figure on-site, after which the crowd erupted into celebration, with fireworks marking the achievement. Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat was among the dignitaries in attendance.

The record is credited to two women working in two different disciplines. Damilola Osikoya, CEO of Switch Visuals and Voyage Quest Travels, was credited as Event Production Producer for the screening, with Switch Visuals listed as the event’s Production Partner. Nora Awolowo of Rixel Studios produced Black Market, directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay, the film that drew the record crowd.

Organisers had targeted a minimum of 50,000 simultaneous attendees ahead of the event, with long queues reported around TBS throughout the day as attendees arrived hours in advance.

Industry observers described Saturday’s event as one of the largest live productions ever executed in Nigeria, noting that its scale depended on the pairing of two distinct disciplines, film production and live event production, both led by women at the head of their respective companies.

Black Market is scheduled for nationwide theatrical release in the coming weeks.
