Bandung utilize Pasupati overpass for culinary area, attracts tourists

Kota Bandung (ANTARA) - The Bandung City government has established an integrated culinary center beneath the Pasupati overpass for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), in an effort to expand business opportunities for local residents and attract tourists.
"The principle is to arrive clean and leave clean. Hopefully, with the clean area, visitors will feel comfortable, and its presence will bring significant benefits to everyone," the Mayor of Bandung City, Muhammad Farhan said here on Sunday.
The area is expected to accommodate up to 60 culinary MSME players.
Farhan said the organizing business areas did not always require grand construction projects.
What mattered most, says Farhan, is ensuring the arrangement accommodated various interests, particularly the sustainability of the local economy.
"An area does not always have to be developed luxuriously. The most important thing is that it functions in a way that accommodates everyone's interests. In this case, the interest is the people's economy," Farhan said.
He outlined three main principles that vendors must observe when operating in the area. First, business structures and facilities must not be permanent or semi-permanent.
Second, operating hours are limited to a maximum of 12 hours. Third, vendors must follow the "arrive clean, leave clean" principle to maintain the cleanliness of the area.
He urged the cleanliness of the area is a shared responsibility.
"This is a collaborative effort involving everyone. It is not simply an order from the mayor. We always seek solutions together, but every outcome of this shared commitment must also be implemented and maintained collectively," he said.
The mayor reminded vendors to take good care of the carts and business facilities provided by the private sector so the equipment can be usable in the long term and support sustainability.
He expressed hope the area would become a productive economic space while maintaining cleanliness, order, and environmental comfort.
