Juventus make unfortunate history by failing to start a single Italian outfield player

The injury crisis leads to Juventus making history against Sassuolo, as for the first time ever in Serie A, they do not field a single Italian outfield player from the start.

It kicks off at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia at 19.45 UK time (20.45 CEST).

The Bianconeri go into this match missing numerous first choice players, among them captain Manuel Locatelli, who has been ruled out for four to six months by meniscus surgery.

Andrea Cambiaso is also not even on the bench due to fitness problems, while Jeremie Boga, Weston McKennie, Kenan Yildiz, Khephren Thuram, Jeff Ekhator and Juan Cabal are on the treatment table.

No Italians in Juventus outfield players

Guglielmo Vicario is in goal and the lone Italian representative, but Opta point out this is the first time in their long top flight history that Juve do not have a single Italian outfield player in the starting XI.

The line-up includes representatives from France, Brazil, Colombia, Turkiye, the Netherlands, Portugal, Argentina and Bosnia and Herzegovina, but none who are home grown.
