CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — Farmers from Oriental Mindoro now have an additional outlet to sell their agricultural produce to Metro Manila consumers through a newly opened Kadiwa retail store managed by a local cooperative.

The Jubilee Oriental Mindoro Consumer Cooperative operates the store at Phase 1, Jubilee East Ville, Barangay Bagong Silangan in Quezon City.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) in Mimaropa supported the farmers through its Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division and the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service.

In a social media post on Wednesday, Oct. 28, DA Mimaropa said the store’s opening on Oct. 20 gives the cooperative a chance to expand its operations while helping Oriental Mindoro farmers reach buyers in the capital.

The outlet also aims to provide city residents with fresh and affordable farm products by establishing a more direct farm-to-consumer link that can reduce costs associated with middlemen.

The store operates daily and sells agricultural goods at affordable prices. Every Tuesday, it also offers rice under the government’s Benteng Bigas program to help consumers access lower-priced rice.

“Everyone who patronizes our KADIWA is not just a buyer, but a partner and part of our cooperative. You can count on our full support for the KADIWA program so we can provide affordable prices for the goods of our people,” Jubilee Oriental Mindoro Consumer Cooperative chairperson Luis Gonzales said. /mcm
