Two killed, many injured as youths, vigilante clash in Niger

A violent clash which broke out in Niger State on Saturday, over the killing of a suspected miscreant, simply identified as Aliyu, has led to the alleged death of another miscreant.

Arewa PUNCH  learnt that the incident happened when members of the state vigilante mobilised and went to arrest some of the suspected  miscreants in Kpakungu, Minna.

According to our reliable sources, in the process of effecting the arrest, a vigilante member shot and killed Aliyu.

The very next day the miscreants were said to have invaded Kpakungu and Bida-Minna road to protest the killing of ther colleague. They resorted to attacking the residents and in the process another person was killed while many residents were injured.

The miscreants blocked the Bida-Minna road preventing motorists from achieving free flow of traffic before operatives of the Nigerian Police arrived the scene to restore normalcy.

The spokesman of the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident and said five persons, including vigilante members had been arrested in connection with rhe killings.

Abiodun, who narrated the incident to Arewa PUNCH said, “On 3rd October 2026 at about 10.30pm, a report received indicated that a group of vigilante men mobilised to Kpakungu area to arrest some miscreants and in the process, one of the vigilant members shot one Aliyu dead, which led to some protest within the area.

“Police patrol teams were mobilised to the location and normalcy was restored, while effort to arrest the vigilante man is ongoing.

“Unfortunately at the early hours of the following day, being 4th October 2026, some of the miscreants mobilised and blocked Bida-Minna road in the name of protest, also moved to Gbeganu area and attacked residents in the area.

“In the course of the attack, it was reported that one person lost his life and some others seriously injured. Police tactical teams were drafted to the area, the rioters were dispersed and the road was cleared for free flow of traffic.

“However, one Mohammed Bagudu and four others who are vigilante men have been arrested in connection with the shooting, while investigation is ongoing,” Abiodun said.
