Matthew Perry Doc Premieres Atop Netflix’s Weekly English TV Rankings; ‘Lupin’ Part 4 Leads All Series As Non-English Fare Commands Attention

Friends fans showed up on Netflix last week to watch the streamer’s new three-part documentary series on Matthew Perry.

The One About Matthew Perry was the top English-language television series on Netflix from October 26 to November 1, gathering 9.5 million views in its first weekend of availability. The series, which is the first in-depth doc about the late actor to feature new testimonials from loved ones and collaborators, was just over 30% ahead of Nobody Wants This in second place.

Season 3 of the Adam Brody and Kristen Bell-starrer was up a tad from its opening weekend performance with 7.2 million views. The audience was expected to go up, since this is the first full week of availability for Season 3. However, it’s still down from where Season 2 started.

On the English TV side of things, viewership slipped fairly significantly across the board from there. Below sank its teeth into third place with 3.8 million views, halving its audience from the week prior when it remained in No. 1. This marks the series’ fourth week in the Top 10 after attracting a record debut for a Canadian scripted series on Netflix.

Season 4 of The Diplomat also lost some viewership this week but remained in the Top 10 at No. 4 with 2.9 million views. Love Is Blind appears to be middling as well with 2.8 million views and the No. 5 spot even with new episodes premiering.

Lupin topped all series for the week as Part 4 climbed to the top of the non-English TV list with 10.8 million views. The return of the popular French drama also boosted all three previous installments back into the weekly Top 10 — Part 1 at No. 2 with 5.2 million views, Part 2 at No. 6 with 3.2 million views, and Part 3 at No. 8 with 3 million views.

The Omar Sy-starrer is still tracking below last season, though, when Part 3 raked in 14.1 million views in its second week of availability — yet another illustration of the ongoing struggles Netflix is facing with maintaining enthusiasm for scripted, returning series across the board.

Animals topped the English film list with a measly 4.7 million views. Much like on the series side, the non-English slate commanded much more attention. Mexican drama Surviving Hurricane Otis topped the non-English film list with 12.4 million views.
