Sterling Point's future has been decided by Prime Video.
Sterling Point is one of the biggest additions to the Prime Video library of TV shows in 2026. After debuting on the streaming service on August 5, when all the drama's 8 episodes were released, Sterling Point went on to become a global streaming sensation. The new 2026 series hails from showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who were also behind the generational teen drama Gossip Girl, and Megan Park, who also created Sterling Point for Prime Video after helming coming-of-age movies like The Fallout and My Old Ass. Two weeks later, Sterling Point's fate has been revealed.
Prime Video has announced that Sterling Point has been renewed for season 2. According to the streaming service, the new coming-of-age drama became a #1 global debut for Prime Video this summer, helping explain why Sterling Point's season 2 was green-lit so quickly, when most shows in the streaming age usually take a few months to get viewership data before a move is announced. Sterling Point season 1 focused on the journey of Ella Rubin's Annie Jacobson, a 17-year-old who grew up in New York and sees her life change when she inherits her grandfather's mysterious island in Canada.
Like any good coming-of-age drama, Sterling Point's cast is filled with up-and-coming actors. Besides Rubin, who already had success on Prime Video as one of the core characters of the Anne Hathaway steamy romance The Idea of You, the show also features names like Mark Ruffalo's son Keen Ruffalo (Task), Bo Bragason (The Legend of Zelda), Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie (Troubled Waters), Daniel Quinn-Toye (Pressure), and more. Sterling Point's young stars are also joined by major established Hollywood names in season 1. Those include The Walking Dead franchise's Negan actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jay Duplass (Percy Jackson and the Olympians), and more.
Speaking about Sterling Point's season 2 announcement, creator Megan Park claimed it was "an absolute joy to see the appreciation and love for the show." As for teasing what is to come when Sterling Point season 2 releases on Prime Video, Park said, "We cannot wait to dive deeper into these characters and deliver the best second season ever!” Peter Friedlander, head of global television, Amazon MGM Studios, commented on how Sterling Point became a global streaming sensation for Prime Video, saying that it was easy to understand why. The executive praised the "strong performances from the phenomenal ensemble cast."
As for co-showrunners Schwartz and Savage from Fake Empire, as well as executive producers Tom Ackerley and Dani Gorin from LuckyChap, a joint statement claimed that "it’s been incredible to watch audiences fall in love with Sterling Point in the way we did while making it." At the time of writing, Sterling Point stands as the 2nd most-watched TV show on Prime Video in the United States. The only series to beat it is Reacher, the action thriller starring Alan Ritchson, whose season 4 is releasing new episodes weekly on the streaming service.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Sterling Point currently has a high 90% critics' score based on 40 reviews, earning the Certified Fresh label. The coming-of-age drama also boasts a strong 85% audience score. Right now, no release date has been announced for Sterling Point season 2, though a 2027 release is likely.
