JoyNews’ #NoToGalamsey campaign has been named New Media Campaign of the Year for 2025 at the 37th Annual National Marketing Performance Awards organised by the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG).

The award was presented at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra on Saturday, October 17, 2026, in recognition of the campaign’s use of digital platforms to extend the reach of its reporting on illegal mining and its effects on water bodies and communities.

In its citation, CIMG said the campaign had used digital conversations to broaden public engagement with the issue.

“JoyNews used digital conversation to widen the reach of its #NoToGalamsey campaign,” the citation read. “Social audio, podcasts and cross-platform storytelling gave audiences ways to engage with reporting on illegal mining and its effect on water and communities.”

CIMG praised the campaign for bringing environmental concerns into everyday public discussion through journalism.

“The campaign's strength lies in using journalism to make an environmental crisis part of everyday public discussion,” the citation stated.

The institute said the campaign brought scientific information, expert perspectives and citizen participation to audiences through social audio, podcasts and other digital channels.

It also recognised the partnerships that helped amplify the campaign’s public-interest reporting.

The judges highlighted the campaign’s scientific grounding and its collaboration with stakeholders, including experts, institutions and citizens.

“The campaign linked public-interest journalism with participation by experts, institutions and citizens,” the citation noted.

The recognition reflects the campaign’s use of multiple digital formats to sustain attention on illegal mining and its environmental and social consequences.

In its concluding remarks, CIMG commended the campaign for its impact, describing it as a resounding success that impressed the evaluators.

The citation ultimately conferred on JoyNews’ #NoToGalamsey the title of New Media Campaign of the Year for 2025.

The #NoToGalamsey campaign has contributed to Ghana’s national conversation on illegal mining, highlighting its effects on the environment, communities and livelihoods.

Through its radio, television and digital platforms, the Multimedia Group has used the campaign to raise awareness, scrutinise the response of duty-bearers and advocate action to protect the country’s natural resources.

The CIMG recognition adds to the campaign’s profile as a public-interest media initiative focused on one of Ghana’s pressing environmental challenges.
