KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 — Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has signed a sale and purchase agreement with Airbus to acquire the latter’s wholly-owned subsidiary Sepang Aircraft Engineering (SAE).

In a statement today, MAG said the proposed acquisition marks a strategic milestone under its Long-Term Business Plan 3.0 (LTBP 3.0), supporting the group’s strategy to strengthen its engineering and maintenance capabilities, expand its integrated aviation services portfolio and accelerate the growth of third-party revenue.

The transaction is subject to conditions precedent, including approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia and is expected to be completed in 2027.

MAG president/group chief executive officer Captain Nasaruddin A Bakar said the proposed acquisition reflects the group’s approach in deploying capital and prioritising opportunities to strengthen core businesses, diversify revenue and support its long-term growth aspirations.

“It builds on our established engineering and maintenance foundations, positioning MAG to capture opportunities in the growing maintenance, repair, and operations market and meet increasing third-party demand,” he added.

Nasaruddin said SAE further complements MAB Engineering’s existing capabilities through its A320 expertise, dedicated paint hangar and specialised component repair services, while building on the strong technical, operational and quality foundations developed under Airbus’ stewardship. — Bernama
