MANILA, Philippines – A few weeks after announcing this year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner, leaders of the Nobel Committee and Nobel Institute will fly to Manila to speak about the state of peace and human rights at Rappler’s Social Good Summit.
They, along with Amnesty International secretary general Agnés Callamard, have just joined the roster of speakers at the summit, set to take place on November 21 at Shangri-La The Fort, Manila.
Jørgen Watne Frydnes, chairperson of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, and Kristian Berg Harpviken, director of the Nobel Institute, will bring their perspectives on how we protect human rights and democratic values as technology, especially generative artificial intelligence, transforms our societies.
AI’s impact on global peace
The summit, entitled, “WE, THE HUMANS: Reclaim Our Future,” puts the spotlight on how to protect human values, human creativity, and human communities from the threats posed by unregulated and abused AI systems.
At last September’s United Nations General Assembly, over 100 delegations called for AI to be governed with humanity, human dignity, and human rights at its core — asking who builds these systems, who bears the risks, and who is held accountable when they cause harm.
The message is clear: These are questions that can’t be left to technology companies alone.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee and Norwegian Nobel Institute work together to award the Nobel Peace Prize. Their mission is to promote peace among nations and recognize individuals who have contributed to peace, democracy, and human rights.
Amnesty International is a global organization fighting human rights abuses. Dr. Callamard leads the movement’s human rights work and serves as its chief spokesperson.
With its roster of speakers, “WE, THE HUMANS” aims to make a resounding declaration that human rights should be at the center of any technology, most especially generative AI.
Apart from keynote speeches and panel discussions, the summit will feature mini RappLearn masterclasses, allowing attendees to join two out of six options. RappLearn is Rappler’s learning and training arm, built to equip emerging professionals, leaders, and organizations with global insight and skills shaped by real-world experience. Its hands-on workshops have been in demand since workshops began in 2025.
The mini masterclasses cover vibe coding; personal safety and privacy in the age of AI agents; how to tell compelling data stories; impacts of AI on mental health, learning, and community well-being; the art behind Rappler’s animated editorial cartoons; and how to protect your brands from AI-driven risks to reputation and survival. See all mini masterclasses here:
