A⁵ Media Group, a new company founded by longtime branding executive Richard Yaffa that aims to help brands, artists and athletes build direct relationships with audiences and generate new and recurring revenue, announced its official launch on Wednesday (Oct. 7).

Designed to solve the challenge of reaching consumers in today’s fragmented media landscape, A⁵ says its proprietary technology helps clients understand the interests and behavior of audiences in real time, manage commerce and rights, and identify new commercial opportunities that benefit brands, artists, athletes and fans alike.

“For decades, the industry has largely measured success by how many people we can reach,” Yaffa, A⁵’s founder and CEO, said in a press release. “The next opportunity is about what happens after you reach them. Can you create a relationship? Can you understand their passions and interests? Can you give them reasons to come back? And can you build something that benefits the fan, the talent and the brand, and generates revenue for our partners? For brands, that means going beyond sponsorship to participating in culture and helping create the content and experiences people care about. That is the business A⁵ is building.”

Speaking with Billboard, Yaffa — a 2025 Billboard Branding Players honoree who most recently served as executive vp of global brands at Universal Music Group (UMG) — adds of the new venture, “There’s a fundamental shift going on in how consumers engage [with] their content and how they engage [with] media and the way that brands are trying to reach those audiences. And in the same way, that happens for artists as well. How do they connect with their fans?”

Yaffa has a long track record in the business, including stints at Sony Music, Spring Studios and WPP/GroupM. In 2022, he was tapped to lead UMG’s UMUsic Media Network, a platform that gave brands access to UMG’s music video content along with the company’s data and insights, giving those brands the tools to hyper-target audiences. Distinct from that, Yaffa says A⁵ isn’t “building one aggregated platform that all these artists live on. We’re building individual opportunities for brands to engage in culture, and individual opportunities for artists to aggregate their entire world in one spot that then brands can participate with.”

Lead investors in A⁵ include the Trefethen Fund, founded by Bill Trefethen and Jake Trefethen; Rich Antoniello, founder and former CEO of Complex and executive chairman of Uproxx and Fort Nash; the Richard Yaffa family; and a number of family offices. Its advisory board includes Ceci Kurzman; entrepreneurs and investors Kass and Mike Lazerow; Nell Daly, co-founder and managing partner of Revenge Capital; and Fred Santarpia, who most recently served as president of Endeavor Streaming.
