Indonesia's RUPTL opens Rp2,133.7T investment opportunities

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s updated power master plan is set to unlock Rp2,133.7 trillion (around $119.2 billion) in investment opportunities through 2034, driven largely by clean energy and grid infrastructure expansion, a government official stated.

The investment potential under the 2025–2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) aims to build 69.5 gigawatts (GW) of new power generation capacity, according to the Investment and Downstreaming Ministry/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM).

Renewable energy will account for 61 percent (42.6 GW) of the additions, requiring Rp1,341.8 trillion (US$75 billion) in funding, largely through independent power producer (IPP) schemes.

The remainder will be split between energy storage at 15 percent (10.3 GW) and fossil-fuel plants at 24 percent (16.6 GW).

"The implementation of the RUPTL opens up investment opportunities of approximately Rp2,133.7 trillion,” Secretary of the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming M Rudy Salahuddin said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Rudy noted that solar power plants (PLTS) represent the largest renewable contribution, with around 17.1 GW of planned additions.

Indonesia possesses a total renewable energy potential of 3,687 GW, including 3,294 GW from solar energy. Utilized capacity as of 2026 stands at just 16.33 GW, or under 0.5 percent of total potential, signaling massive untapped room for private capital.

In terms of employment, the power sector expansion is projected to generate over 836,000 jobs, with more than 760,000 of these positions classified as green jobs.

Rudy highlighted that expanding clean energy supply is paramount to attracting global capital into next-generation sectors, including data centers, green industrial parks, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), green ammonia and carbon capture technologies.

"With a cleaner energy foundation, Indonesia can open up opportunities for future industries. The impact extends beyond increased investment to include quality jobs, more competitive exports and a stronger position for Indonesia within the global supply chain," Rudy concluded.
