Mavo apologises as backlash over past tweets intensifies

Following days of criticism, Mavo has issued an apology over his controversial posts on social media.

Nigerian singer Mavo has issued an apology over comments he made about other artists in the past, following renewed criticism of his old social media posts.

The controversy emerged after some of the singer’s previous tweets resurfaced online, prompting reactions from social media users over his past opinions about several figures such as Davido, Ayra Starr and others in the Nigerian music industry.

Amid the growing backlash, Mavo acknowledged that he had been highly critical of entertainers during his early university years but said his outlook eventually changed when he decided to concentrate on his own music career.

“I was a bad entertainment critic when I started uni until I realized superstars don't really care about Twitter,” he wrote.

According to Mavo, stepping away from criticising other artists and focusing on his music has brought him greater peace.

“I stopped criticizing and focused solely on my music and since then it's been bliss,” he added.

The singer also admitted that some of his previous comments had unintentionally hurt people and apologised to those affected.

“My criticism sadly, unfortunately & unintentionally hurt quite a number of people & I'm honestly sorry,” Mavo said.

He further revealed that he has since met several of the people he previously criticised and found his earlier judgments of them did not reflect his subsequent personal experiences.

“I have met most of these people and they actually turn out to be amazing people. I'm sorry for my misjudgment. Let love lead,” he concluded.

The apology comes as Mavo faces increased scrutiny online over his past tweets, with the resurfaced posts generating conversations among fans and other social media users.
