Dutch Lower-League Match Abandoned After Player Loses Teeth In Wild Tunnel Brawl

A Dutch lower-league football match between IJsselmeervogels and GVVV was abandoned at halftime after a tunnel fight left defender Quiermo Dumay with three knocked-out teeth.

According to Daily Mail, the 25-year-old IJsselmeervogels defender reportedly lost three teeth after being struck as the teams headed towards their dressing rooms. Dumay left the stadium wearing a blood-stained shirt and later filed a police report.

The incident carried an added layer of tension because Dumay was playing against his former club. He represented GVVV before joining IJsselmeervogels.

Stadium security and police quickly stepped in to seal off the players’ tunnel while officials took the formal decision to abandon the contest.

The friction threatened to spread beyond the confines of the venue, but officers managed to intervene in time to keep the rival sets of supporters separated.

Speaking to RTV Utrecht, GVVV chairman Hans Schinkel addressed the disturbing events: “I have seen the photo, and your first thought is: what has happened? You want to know what has happened. We will hear that shortly. I believe an investigation is now underway.”

Schinkel confirmed that law enforcement has become involved in the matter, adding: “A report has even been filed with the police. But I do not know what happened, so I cannot pass judgement on it. I do not think it was an IJsselmeervogels player who dealt the blow.”
