Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto extended his highest appreciation to Indonesian athletes and coaches, praising their stellar performances at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games and Asian Para Games for bringing immense pride to the nation.

"On behalf of the state, the nation and the people of Indonesia, and on behalf of the government, I extend my thanks to everyone present, all the athletes, coaches and everyone who was part of the Indonesian contingent for the Asian Games and Asian Para Games," Prabowo said at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday.

Prabowo conveyed the appreciation during a ceremony honoring the medalists, which also marked the official distribution of government bonuses.

The president highlighted that the Indonesian contingent successfully surpassed the gold medal targets set for each tournament.

For the Asian Games, Indonesia secured five gold, 11 silver, and 23 bronze medals, totaling 39 medals and surpassing the initial target of four gold medals.

Meanwhile, in the Asian Para Games, the contingent collected 15 gold, 21 silver, and 37 bronze medals, totaling 73 medals and far exceeding the target of seven gold medals.

Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir stated that the government is providing financial bonuses to athletes, determined by the type of medal won and competition category, as an expression of appreciation.

For individual events, the government awards Rp3 billion (approximately US$166,667) for a gold medal, Rp525 million (US$29,167) for silver and Rp262.5 million (US$14,583) for bronze.

Meanwhile, athletes competing in doubles events receive Rp2.4 billion (US$133,333) for gold, Rp420 million (US$23,333) for silver and Rp210 million (US$11,667) for bronze.

For team events, rewards are set at Rp1.5 billion (US$83,333) for gold, Rp315 million (US$17,500) for silver and Rp157.5 million (US$8,750) for bronze.

The government is also awarding official recognition and bonuses to coaches based on their respective competition categories and medal achievements.
