PNP: Money eyed as possible motive in death of woman found in refrigerator

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is looking into a possible money-related motive in the killing of a woman whose body was found inside a refrigerator in an apartment in Rodriguez, Rizal.

At a press briefing on Friday, PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Allen Rae Co said the victim's father told investigators that his daughter was carrying a large amount of money.

“Money nga, yung pera lang na hawak daw ng babae. According to the father of the victim ay merong maraming, malaking pera yung babae,” Co said.

Authorities, however, pointed out that the possible motive has yet to be established and remains subject to validation as the investigation continues.

Police said the victim and her male partner had rented the apartment beginning September 9.

The woman’s body was discovered on September 16 after the landlord went to the unit following several days of being unable to contact the occupants.

The victim was identified by her father, who also presented her valid identification documents. Police initially recovered two IDs from the scene, which were later found to be fake.

Investigators are currently searching for the male partner, who is considered a person of interest. According to Co, the person of interest has an outstanding warrant of arrest for serious illegal detention.

Police said the victim and the man faced the same serious illegal detention case. The woman had recently posted bail, while the man remained at large.

Authorities are also checking whether the previous case is connected to the woman's killing.

Police said the woman appeared to have been strangled with a rope before her body was placed inside a refrigerator. —LDF, GMA News
