Outlander star Caitriona Balfe’s new film alongside Heartstopper’s Kit Connor and The Bear’s Ebon Moss-Bachrach finally has a first full trailer.

The moody first look for A Long Winter sets the stage for what lies ahead for this new drama, set in the depths of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains.

The story, set in 1951, is told through the eyes of Mike (Fred Hechinger), a timid man whose world is turned upside down when his troubled mother Louise (Balfe) disappears into the wilderness.

As the search for her begins, Mike needs to rally the community and work alongside his farmstead father Lester (Moss-Bachrach), with an unforgiving winter coming in that leads to its own complications.

In the trailer, Mike can be heard reminiscing about about his mother and what she was thinking and feeling before disappearing, before noting "folk always find a way to cope".

He's also seen smelling a glass his mother has been drinking out of, suggesting she may have an alcohol problem, and commenting about his hesitance to change.

As the story continues, the synopsis reads: “Mike embarks on a search that leads him toward an unexpected journey of self-discovery, belonging and the quiet strength required to carry on.”

Completing the core cast is Connor, who plays Mike’s brother Tommy, who has plans to serve in the military, and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai as Jimmy, who Lester takes in to do the chores his wife did while she’s missing, and who Mike forms a close bond with.
