Coronation Street airs major Eva Price accident twist and tearful Christina Boyd explanation in early ITVX release

It's been a dramatic day in Coronation Street, as Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) took a tumble down the Rovers' cellar steps, and Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins) opened up about her dark secret.

An exciting opportunity had arisen for Susie Price (Aurora Bradshaw) to audition for a play in London, and although Eva was thrilled for her daughter, she had to send her partner Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker) off to accompany the youngster instead.

She was suffering with a cold, and waved them off for the adventure before bumping into Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan). They were hunting for Sam's phone, as neither could remember where Nick had put it after he'd confiscated it yesterday.

Nobody could find it, and with Eva milking her illness, Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger) walked out. There was nobody to help run the pub, so she had no open but to shut up shop.

After Carl Webster (Jonathan howard) helped her tidy away the empties, she went down to the cellar to grab some boxes of crisps. Suddenly, upstairs, a noise was heard. It was Sam desperately searching for his phone, and in a panic, he knocked her backwards.

Her foot glided off the step, and she spiralled downwards onto the concrete floor of the cellar below.

A terrified Sam looked downwards in horror at her lifeless body. Will Eva be OK?

Elsewhere on the cobbles, George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) urged partner Christina to open up about the huge secret she'd just divulged.

As viewers saw earlier this week, Christina was spooked to realise that Tim and Sally Metcalfe's (Joe Duttine and Sally Dynevor) foster daughter Lucy Parkinson (Anya Dewin) is her granddaughter.

In a further horrific twist, she discovered that her daughter, Lucy's mum Rachel, had been brutally murdered and that Shuttleworth's Funeral Directors were handling the ceremony.

Emotional scenes saw Christina admit that she had an affair with her boss when she was 18, and that when she gave birth, she couldn't bond with the child. Eventually, she agreed to hand baby Rachel over to her father and his wife.

This was the last she ever saw of her.

She then began to contemplate whether she should tell Lucy about the connection, though George advised her to approach it with caution. After all, Lucy is incredibly troubled.
