Gian Piero Gasperini was delighted with his Roma players after another free-flowing attacking performance in Saturday’s 5-2 victory away against Udinese, agreeing that ‘the numbers count, we score a lot of goals with a lot of players and that’s a good signal’.
Roma extended their unbeaten start to the 2026-27 Serie A season to 10 matches with a 5-2 defeat away against struggling Udinese on Saturday evening. Five different goalscorers in Bryan Cristante, Rodrigo Mora, Donyell Malen, Evan Ndicka and Daniele Ghilardi were on the scoresheet, and over their last four matches, Roma have been averaging four goals scored per game.

Gasperini speaks after Udinese 2-5 Roma: ‘A good signal’

Speaking to DAZN after full-time on Saturday, Gasperini could not deny the fact that Roma are putting up encouraging numbers at the start of the season, particularly in front of goal.
“The numbers count and they’re definitely telling us something. We score a lot of goals and with a lot of different players. Now we believe we can be decisive in terms of creativity and finishing. We’re scoring goals with lots of players and that’s a good signal,” said the Giallorossi head coach.
Roma were 4-0 up at half-time against Udinese, but did drop off slightly in the second half. Whilst have scored more than any other team in the division so far this season, they have also conceded seven across their last three league matches.

“Even the teams that compete for first place will run into problems,” Gasperini suggested.
“We came out 4-0 up and I’d asked for us to not concede any goals, but we have to play in Manchester in three days time. This was our eighth game in 20 days and it’s normal to feel a bit tired. The second goal hurts more because we were static. But as soon as we put our foot back on the gas, we put them in difficulty.”
Once again, Roma were able to rely on a number of emerging youngsters against Udinese: Rodrigo Mora was on the scoresheet again. Emanuele Lulli scoffed midweek and Niccolo Pisilli has been playing well, too.
“I’m lucky enough to have lots of players, young and old, who give me their availability,” said Gasperini.

“Generally, the young ones want to stand out more and improve. We’ve got a good mix. We have other flaws, but we’re doing everything well. Ghilardi was annoyed about his disallowed goal in the Champions League, a great goal, so today he’s feeling satisfied.”
It has been an encouraging run of results for Roma since the last international break, in a period that Gasperini says is unprecedented in terms of the fixture pile-up.
“I’m struggling to remember having such a long period with three games a week. It happened to me at Atalanta when we won the Europa League, but that was in March/April. I can’t remember another period like this around this time of year, and with games at such a high level.
“I think that we will have a few fewer commitments after the break, and then we will also be able to divide minutes a bit better when we recover Svilar, Kone, Dybala and Pellegrini.”
