Broadway Box Office: ‘Titanique’ Hits New High, ‘Oh, Mary!’ Jumps As Bowen Yang Takes Over

Titanique saw its highest-grossing week on Broadway, as the musical brought in $1.3 million in its final week of performances.

The show, which loosely follows the plot of the movie, Titanic, set to the songs of Celine Dion, played to close to 99 percent capacity and saw its average ticket price jump up to $127, the highest of its run. The musical, which opened April 12, received four Tony nominations and ended its limited run Sept. 20.

Oh, Mary! was the fourth highest grossing show of the week, as Bowen Yang began performances as Mary Todd Lincoln on Sept. 15. The play brought in $1.5 million as the average ticket price jumped to $212 from $160. Capacity increased slightly from 97 to 99 percent.

Hamilton was the highest earner of the week (with original cast member Chris Jackson back in the cast), followed by The Lion King with close to $1.8 million and MJ with $1.6 million. Wicked, which has fallen from last year’s highs, remained just outside of the top five, with $1.3 million and capacity at 99 percent.

Showing the impact of celebrity, grosses at Harry Potter and the Cursed Child dropped more than $570,000 to just under $1 million, as Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films and is reprising the role in the play, had a scheduled absence from the show last week.

Moving past Labor Day, most shows saw a boost in grosses last week. New musical Schmigadoon! jumped back up to over $1 million and capacity increased to close to 100 percent, with new cast member Jennifer Simard taking over Ana Gasteyer’s role. The Lost Boys increased to $1.1 million and capacity slightly increased to 87 percent.
