News24 | Eastern Cape police descend on King Phalo Airport after incoming flight bomb threat
Several Eastern Cape police units descended on King Phalo Airport in KuGompo City on Wednesday morning following a bomb threat.
This, after a call was received from an unknown caller using a private number, alleging the presence of a bomb on an aircraft that was bound for the airport.
“The aircraft is currently being held as part of standard security protocols. All 184 passengers on board have safely disembarked,” police spokesperson, Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana said.
A multi-disciplinary response team was activated and proceeded to the scene, said Gantana.
They included the bomb-disposal unit, K9 explosive-detection dogs, hostage negotiators, disaster management, airport security, and emergency medical services.
“The scene is being managed by the relevant authorities, and investigations into the origin of the threat are ongoing,” added Gantana.
This is a developing story.
