Rashmika Mandanna has spoken about the online trolling she has faced over her accent and language skills. Appearing on the latest episode of ‘Koffee With Karan’ Season 9 with her husband, actor Vijay Deverakonda, Rashmika said she never wanted criticism to limit her career or stop her from working across different film industries.

The actress also explained why she enjoys playing different characters and why she has no problem with her South Indian accent.

Rashmika Mandanna opens up about accent trolling

During the show, Rashmika Mandanna said she has faced criticism since the beginning of her career. From her acting and performances to the languages she speaks, she has often been targeted on social media.

‘I never wanted to put a barrier for myself’: Rashmika Mandanna

“Ever since I started working in the film industry, you know, I've been criticised or trolled for one thing or the other, like either my performance, or the language, or the acting, or just the accent, or anything.

So for me, I never wanted to sort of put a barrier for myself. I didn't want to just work in one industry. I wanted to work in them all. I didn't want to speak just one language. I wanted to speak all languages,” she said. She spoke about the contrast between her roles in ‘Animal’ and ‘The Girlfriend’, saying that playing such different characters gives her satisfaction.

Rashmika Mandanna finds satisfaction in playing different roles

“So very early on in my career, I started doing all kinds of films.

So today, when I'm a part of a brilliant film like an Animal and a Girlfriend, it gives me great satisfaction as an actor. Yeah? You know, because I'm like, I'm able to play them all. So today, when you say, okay, there's a Girlfriend and there's an Animal, like it's so different, but you're a part of both of them. I'm like, I wanted it that way,” she said.Rashmika Mandanna's Hindi dialogue delivery has often attracted criticism online.

Responding to it, the ‘Thamma’ actress said she does not understand why her South Indian accent should be treated as a problem.“I particularly didn't have an issue with that because they said I had a South Indian accent, but I am from the South of India. So I am going to have an accent. It's unreasonable to think otherwise,” she said.

Rashmika Mandanna on dubbing for her own films

Rashmika Mandanna also spoke about dubbing for her films in different languages. She said she gives directors the option of choosing another dubbing artist if they feel a different voice would suit the character better.“But every film that I'm a part of, of course, I go and give this option to my directors, saying I'm not the one who's going to feel bad if you want to dub with someone else, you know? But none of my directors actually wanted to dub with someone else. They wanted me to dub for myself,” she said. The actress added that dubbing for herself in multiple languages takes considerable effort and makes her proud.Rashmika Mandanna was last seen on the big screens alongwith Vijay Deverakonda for the period action drama ‘Ranabaali’. She will be next seen in the action thriller ‘Mysaa’ in the leading role.
