Rosmah dismisses report of RM50mil fine payment for Najib

Rosmah Mansor says she is unaware of reports that two representatives went to the High Court here today to pay the RM50 million fine imposed on her husband, former prime minister Najib Razak.

She said neither she nor her family had been informed of any developments concerning the matter, including the alleged payment.

“I don’t know. The family was not informed, either. You should have told me.

“If the report is wrong, they will have to retract the story,” she told reporters after attending the case management of her solar project case at the High Court here.

Utusan Malaysia reported earlier today that two individuals representing Najib were at the court to facilitate payment of the RM50 million fine.

Najib’s lawyer Shafee Abdullahn said on Wednesday he had yet to receive instructions on whether his client would pay the fine.

He was responding to media reports that Najib was expected to settle the fine that day.

Najib was jailed in August 2022 after the Federal Court upheld his conviction for abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering involving RM42 million in SRC International funds.

He was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment and fined RM210 million.

In January 2024, then Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah halved Najib’s prison sentence and reduced his fine to RM50 million as part of a royal pardon.

In September this year, the current Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, granted Najib a further conditional pardon, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.

The arrangement is subject to Najib paying the RM50 million fine and complying with other stipulated conditions.
