Rivals season 2 part 2 new first-look images and trailer revealed ahead of dramatic return - and it's mere weeks away

The rest of the second season of Rivals really couldn't come soon enough and now, to mark the countdown till it lands on our screens in November, we have an official trailer to get us even more excited.

The mid-season finale was one for the books and the trailer opens in the aftermath of those events, with heartbreak coursing through Rutshire and a major funeral underway. Rupert (Alex Hassell) takes no prisoners with Tony (David Tennant), telling him: "Your wife died in my arms, broken by your games."

But rather than dwell in the sadness, Tony seems as poised for his usual mind games than ever, telling Rupert that "she's not here anymore" and seen holding a rifle as he sits in a daze at home. With Monica (Claire Rushbrook) now gone, could it open up the floodgates for Tony's true evil spirit?

As Maud (Victoria Smurfit) reckons with her own part in the entire sad sequence of events, Tony has no time for her guilt and simply tells her that they "aren't done yet" – whether that means in the confines of their affair or with Tony using Maud as a pawn in his wider Corinium vs Venturer battle, we'll have to wait and see.

Elsewhere, the trailer shows things getting a bit more aggressive as it pertains to Taggie (Bella Maclean) and Rupert, with it clear that sparks are now flying properly between Bas (Luke Pasqualino) and Taggie. Rupert states he's leaving Rutshire for Christmas but later on, we see him punch Bas in the face, clearly an emotion-fuelled act – but how will Taggie react to such violence?

We also get a taste of some Christmas festivities as amongst the glittery parties and champagne, we also see things continue to heat up between Lizzie (Katherine Parkinson) and Freddie (Danny Dyer) and a somewhat awkward confrontation between James (Oliver Chris) and Paul (Rufus Jones).

It's safe to say that the new batch of season 2 episodes is packed full of juicy tidbits, with tensions at an all-time high and the stakes for the TV battle continuing on.

Whilst this next instalment of six episodes will likely be binge-watched in no time, fans can rest easy in the fact that the series has already been greenlit for season 3.

For now, we can start counting down the days till season 2 lands in just a matter of weeks.

The season 2 part 2 description reads: "As the return to the scandal and excess of 1987 edges closer, the residents of Rutshire reunite for more revelry, rivalry and romance, but as the stakes ramp-up they must face tragedy, heartbreak, backstabbing, and betrayal head on.

"Episodes 7-12 pick up after the heartbreaking mid-series finale. Tony Baddingham and Declan O'Hara's battle for the Cotswolds crown reaches fever pitch, while Rupert Campbell-Black is forced to confront his own personal demons."

It continues: "Against a backdrop of hedonistic parties, Bonfire Night chaos, the Hampshire Hunt Ball and a turbulent Christmas, affairs unravel, alliances fracture and rivalries intensify. Caught in the middle of the frenzied franchise war, Taggie O'Hara must find the courage to follow her heart, while those around her face the consequences of ambition, power and secrets that can no longer remain hidden. But as series two draws to a close, who will get their happy ending?"
