President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will attend the Formula 1 race in Singapore, scheduled to start on October 9, 2026.
“Dadalo po siya dahil ang sabi ng Pangulo ang mga transaction mas magandang nagkakaroon ng face-to-face meetings katulad ng ganitong event,” Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said during a press briefing in Singapore on Friday.
(He will attend because, as the President said, transactions and discussions are better conducted through face-to-face meetings at events like this.)
“Naipahayag niya rin na minsan sa ganitong event niya nakita si Lee Kuan Yew at ilang mga negosyante na nakikita ang body language ng bawat isa,” she added.
(He also shared that it was at a similar event where he met Lee Kuan Yew and several business leaders, emphasizing the value of observing one another's body language.)
The Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix events start Friday while the main race is scheduled on October 11.
Marcos has previously stated that attending the event presents partnership opportunities for the Philippines.
According to Ambassador Medardo Macaraig, Marcos was invited by Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and noted that the President will not need to pay for a ticket.
Castro previously said that Marcos’ attendance at the race is bound to draw attention.
“Hindi maiiwasan na may pipintas, at may negatibo pero hindi nawawala kahit isang segundo ang pagiging Pangulo ni Pangulong Marcos,” Castro said.
(Criticism and negative comments are inevitable, but President Marcos does not stop being President even for a single second.)
Marcos has already attended at least two other Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix events during his presidency. —VAL, GMA News
