Passengers taking international flights from Long Thanh airport to pay $25 service fee

Passengers departing on international flights from Long Thanh Airport will pay a US$25 service fee, the same as at Hanoi's Noi Bai Airport and $5 more than at Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat Airport.

The fee will apply starting Oct. 1.

Domestic passengers will pay a fee of VND90,909 ($3.50).

The introduction of the fees is part of the preparatory phase for Long Thanh's imminent opening.

For domestic passengers, all three major international airports will charge VND90,909.

For international departures originally booked from Tan Son Nhat but later switched to Long Thanh or vice versa, the original rate will apply, and passengers will not be charged the $5 difference or paid back.

Long Thanh Airport is currently developing its first phase, which can handle 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo annually.

It is scheduled to open on Dec. 1.

To minimize disruptions, flights will gradually shift from Tan Son Nhat to Long Thanh as construction reaches completion.

The Airports Corporation of Vietnam, the government agency managing 22 airports across the country, has proposed that Long Thanh will take over all international routes longer than 1,000 kilometers.

It will also manage irregular international flights and new routes when Tan Son Nhat reaches full capacity.

In the case of domestic flights, airlines can choose whether to operate out of Long Thanh.
