Constantin Film and Sony Pictures’ horror reboot “Resident Evil” took the crown at the mainland China box office during the Oct. 9–11 weekend, pulling in RMB81.2 million ($12.1 million) across the three-day frame, according to data from Artisan Gateway.

Following its rollout on Monday, Oct. 5 in the latter stretch of the Golden Week holiday, the video game adaptation has generated a cumulative haul of $40.7 million.

New Classics Pictures’ crime procedural drama “Traces of Justice” moved to second place in its sophomore session, collecting $8.3 million. Directed by Chen Sicheng (“Detective Chinatown”) and co-written with Zhang Ji and Yan Zijie, the period investigation drama has amassed $73.4 million since opening on Oct. 1. Starring Zhang Yi, Ma Li, and Chen Minghao alongside Karry Wang, Fan Chengcheng, and Chen Feiyu, the multi-decade narrative charts a veteran public security officer unraveling major historical cases based on real events.

Beijing Joy Fun Pictures’ family body-swap comedy “Mr. & Mrs. Pardon” was in third position, generating $5.7 million over the weekend frame to lift its cumulative gross to $43.6 million. Directed by Shen Chunyang and written by Ma Duo, the satirical feature stars real-life comedic pair Shen Chunyang and Xiao Shenyang alongside Jia Bing and Yu Yang as an uninspired middle-aged couple forced to confront marital stagnation after trading bodies.

CMC Pictures’ gritty revenge thriller sequel “Go for Broke 2” placed fourth, adding $1 million in its second weekend. Written and directed by Marc Ma, the action film starring Isabella Leong, Wen Junhui, and Sammo Hung has accumulated $7.9 million since its Oct. 3 launch.

Dirty Monkeys’ war comedy-drama “Once Upon a Time in the Middle East,” which is China’s entry to the Oscars’ international feature category, rounded out the top five in its ninth weekend of release, taking in $800,000. Directed by Wen Muye and starring Shen Teng, Jiang Qiming, Aarif Rahman, and Omar Sherif, the enduring summer blockbuster has lifted its cume to $353 million since opening on Aug. 11.

Mainland China’s overall weekend box office dropped to $30.8 million as theatrical traffic normalized in the wake of the National Day holiday rush. Year-to-date box office revenue stands at $4.63 billion, trailing the same period in 2025 by 29.4%, according to Artisan Gateway.
