The organizers of the Tokyo Game Show 2026 event announced on Saturday the event is canceled for Monday, September 21, due to an approaching typhoon. The event will still be held on Sunday, September 20 as planned without any changes in hours.

The organizers stated:

Due to the approaching typhoon, strong winds and heavy rain are expected from the afternoon of September 21. There is also a possibility that public transportation services may be affected, making it difficult for visitors and other attendees to return home safely.

Taking the safety of all attendees, exhibitors, staff, and other parties involved as our highest priority, we have decided to cancel the event for the entire day on September 21.

The event will refund those who purchased tickets for Monday. The organizers are planning to stream some of the stage events scheduled for Monday.

This year would have marked the first time the event was being held across five total days. September 17-18 were business days, and September 19-21 were planned as public days (September 21 is a national holiday in Japan). 53,630 people attended the event on Thursday and 52,545 people attended the event on Friday.

Tokyo Game Show began as a three-day event in 1996, expanded to two annual events (spring and fall) in 1997, shrank back to one annual three-day event in 2002, and expanded to a four-day event in 2007.

263,101 people attended last year's event held across four days.

Typhoon No. 25 (Typhoon Dujuan) is currently expected to approach Japan's Kanto region on Monday.
