Fans rip Bengals' Jordan Battle for giving free scouting report on Malik Willis before Dolphins matchup

Translate

Jordan Battle is a good football player. A good poker player? Probably not.

The Cincinnati Bengals safety revealed to the world — and, more importantly, the Miami Dolphins — that the team had identified a tell in Malik Willis' throwing motion before the Bengals face the Dolphins on Sunday. Not only did Battle reveal that the Bengals had identified a tell, but he also told reporters exactly what it was.

"He has a little slight little tap before every throw though, so I feel like we could use that as a key to break on the ball. He likes to tap the ball before he throws it, or he takes his hand off, and that that gives the read the break," Battle told reporters Thursday.

The Bengals coaching staff surely can't be pleased that Battle revealed the information, but the Dolphins welcomed it. While Miami head coach Jeff Hafley downplayed Battle's comments, saying many quarterbacks tap the ball before throwing, he was happy to hear about the observation .

"It’s a timing and rhythm thing with a lot of guys, and there’s a lot of them that do that, but any opponent that wants to share our tendencies with us, we’ll take any time," Hafley told reporters Friday.

Fans torched Battle on social media for his mishap.

"Why the f—k would you say this to the media," one user wrote on X.

"Why would you reveal this," another incredulous fan wrote on X.

"He should go ahead and tell the media all the Bengals' defensive audibles too. Just make it easy," another X user posted.

Battle is in his fourth season with the Bengals after the team selected him in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Alabama. Battle, who has not missed a game in his NFL career, has one interception this season and seven for his career.

In addition to his interception, Battle has recorded 25 tackles and two passes defensed this season.

The Bengals are looking to get back on track after losing two straight games following a 2-0 start. They hope to exploit Willis' tell to help secure a victory over the 0-4 Dolphins.

The Bengals play the Dolphins on the road at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
